Stephen R. Gombos, 64, of Dover, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Medical Center in Canton, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and memories as vivid as his personality.
Born on July 3, 1960, in Warren, Ohio, Stephen was the beloved son of the late Stephen J. and Pauline Prelac Gombos. A man of boundless energy and humor, Stephen made an indelible mark as the owner and operator of Precision Spouting in Dover, where for over 30 years, his hard work and dedication earned him the trust and admiration of his customers and community.
Stephen had a knack for turning the ordinary into extraordinary. A master of the hot plate and a culinary wizard, he was the go-to chef for pig roasts, whether for friends, family, or the Knights of Columbus. His perfectly cooked hog was legendary. At heart, Stephen was the life of every gathering, bringing smiles and laughter with his quick wit and playful spirit.
An avid outdoorsman, Stephen loved the thrill of hunting and fishing, the freedom of the open road on his motorcycle, and the serenity of the water. Some of his most cherished memories were made sailing with his father. A true master of the sailboat, he carried those lessons of patience, skill, and adventure throughout his life.
Above all, Stephen’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted father to Erin (Justin) Ranta of Malvern, Stephen (Rebeca) Gombos of Newark, and Rachel (Garret) Gardull of Toledo, and an adoring grandfather to Rylie, Leah, Rayna, Brynlie, and Everlie. His love and humor will remain a cherished memory for his sisters, Rosey Gombos of Dover and Theresa (Michael) Jakupca of Canton.
Stephen was also a man of faith and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover, where he found solace and strength.
A funeral Mass celebrating Stephen’s incredible life will take place on Wednesday, January 8th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. In keeping with Stephen’s spirit, the family invites you to honor his memory by recalling the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the adventures he embraced. Per Stephen’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. In honor of the friendships and memories made we hold a gathering for stories and good food at the Monarch Center following mass around 12:30, 831 Boulevard St, Dover, Ohio 44622.
His vibrant spirit, hearty laugh, and love for life will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
