Steve Doyal Dessecker

Steve Doyal Dessecker, 51, of Dover died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 in Mercy Medical Center in Canton after a long illness.

Born August 31, 1956, in Dover, he was the son of the late Doyal and Mary Slates Dessecker. He married his wife, Mary Chercony on April 8, 1979.

Steve graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1974. He worked for Ashland Oil Company and drove trucks for Midwest Industrial Supply for over 11 years. He also took care of patients at Consumer Support Services in Bolivar, Ohio.

He was an avid Ohio sports fan. He spent most of his spare time watching the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Browns. He also loved traveling to Wheeling, West Virginia to gamble.

In addition to his wife, he will be sadly missed by; his two daughters, Betty Dessecker of Dover, Brittany (husband, Mark) Miller of Dover; his son, Jesse Hershberger of Dover; his brother, Dean (wife, Lori) Dessecker of New Philadelphia; three sisters, Margaret Dessecker of Akron, Sue Lanning of Strasburg and Linda (husband, Jim) York of Midvale; as well as his close friend, Bob "Wally" Finnan of Medina, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Steve's life will take place at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Dode Overton officiating. In honoring Steve's wishes cremation will follow the service. Friends are invited to a luncheon at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard in Dover, directly after the service. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, August 2, 2008 from 5:00-8:00 pm.
