Sue A. Donnelly, 73, of Atwater passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 in the Country Club Retirement Center.
Born April 8, 1948 in Dover she was a daughter of the late Harry and Mildred McClain Whittlesey. Sue was also preceded in death by her husband, Gerald R. “Jerry” Donnelly in 1985; and her brother, James Whittlesey.
Sue was a 1966 graduate of Atwater High School, received her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from St. John College, and finally earned her master’s degree in Health Education from KSU in 1978. She spent 35 years doing what she loved, taking care of people. Sue served as the Director of Nursing for several different nursing homes throughout the area. She had a great sense of humor, and loved sewing, cross stitching, working in her garden, and sports, especially softball and swimming.
Sue is survived by her children, Jennifer (J.R.) Thomas of New Philadelphia, Richard (Michelle) Donnelly of Texas; granddaughter, Mya Thomas; sister, Jane Abrams of Florida; special friend and sister in law, Sara Fleming; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory. There will be no public services or calling hours. Her remains will be buried next to her husband at Atwater Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Country Club for their wonderful and outstanding care of Sue during her stay.
