Susan Eilene Carr, 51, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, Jul. 8, 2007, in Mercy Medical Center, Canton, following a long battle with Scleroderma.
Born Mar. 24, 1956, in Harmon, WV, she was a daughter of Vallie Davis Carr of New Philadelphia, and the late Paul Carr. Susan graduated from Strasburg High School in 1974, and later went on to graduate from Kent State University. She worked in social services in both Ohio and Tennessee, and later was employed by Verizon Wireless, from which she retired due to illness.
Susan�(TM)s life revolved around her family, especially her grandson, Wesley, Jr. She enjoyed writing, reading and listening to music. She loved Jesus and she enjoyed life. Susan also received enjoyment through her support of various charities such as Feed the Children, The 700 Club, The National Kidney Foundation, The American Cancer Society, and others.
In addition to her mother, survivors include a son, Wesley E. (wife, Shannon) Shontz Sr. of New Philadelphia; her grandson, Wesley Elijah Shontz Jr.; two sisters, Wilma M. Stanley of New Philadelphia, and Donna J. Carr of Bath; a brother Dennis K. Carr of Dover; a niece, Joyce M. (husband, Carter) Ames; nephews, Drew, Matt and Nick Gutierrez; and great nephew, Kody Ames; and many good friends. Susan was also looking forward to the birth of her second grandson, Collin Isiah Shontz, due August 9, 2007
Besides her father, Susan was preceded in death by William Shontz, and by a special aunt and uncle, Nellie and Marvin Teeter.
Susan�(TM)s legacy will be the unconditional love she willingly gave, not only to family and friends, but to mankind in general. She believed in living each day to it�(TM)s fullest, telling others what they meant to her, and treating everyone she met with dignity and respect, the way she wanted to be treated herself.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jul. 12, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Dr. Charles E. Jarvis of the Valley View Community Church in Sugarcreek officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a meal, and celebration of Susan�(TM)s life, in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
