Susan E. Rees, age 93, a lifelong resident of Dover, passed away Monday, March 8, 2021, in Dover’s New Dawn Healthcare Center.
Born October 26, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Louis C. and Edna Greenwell Streb. Susan graduated in 1945 from St. Joseph High School, Dover, and, on January 28, 1950, married Edgar A. Rees. The couple shared 44 years of marriage prior to Edgar’s passing on February 21, 1994. Susan was employed by Dr. Joseph Hamilton in Dover for 30 years, retiring in 1977.
She was a member of Dover’s St. Joseph Church, where she sang in the choir, and belonged to the St. Joseph High School Alumni Association. Susan served on the Board of Directors of the Dover Historical Society, and volunteered at the Reeves Victorian Home. She also served as a volunteer for the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, and read to elementary school children in the Dover City Schools. Additionally, Susan was very fond of gardening.
She is survived by her sister, Catherine Ann Rafalowski of Peachtree City, Georgia; her brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Joyce Streb of New Philadelphia; her brothers, Louis “Jerry” Streb of Perrysburg, and Thomas Streb of Madison, Wisconsin; her many nieces and nephews; and her neighbors who looked after her, John and Jean Loffredo, and their son, Johnny Loffredo, of Dover.
Besides her parents, and her husband, Edgar, Susan was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Streb; ber brother and sister-in-law, William and Maxine Streb; and her grandparents, William and Amelia Streb.
A memorial Mass will be held Friday, March 26, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Joseph Church; Fr. Jimmy Hatfield will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery, Dover.
