Terry Lee Lawrence, a beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away unexpectedly at his home in Dover on Monday, August 14, 2023 following a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 3, 1958, in Coshocton to the late Vincent and Donna Bryan Lawrence.
Terry dedicated over two decades of his life to the City of Dover Electric Field Division before retiring in 2021. A graduate of Ridgewood High School in 1976, Terry was known for his exceptional skills and resourcefulness. He had an innate ability to fix just about anything, earning him a reputation as a remarkably handy person. Friends and family could always rely on Terry to provide practical solutions to any problem that came their way.
However, above all else, Terry cherished his family. He loved his wife of 40 years, Lesa Landis Lawrence, dearly. Their marriage on October 2, 1982, marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership filled with love and support. Together they raised three wonderful children: Kyle (Bobbi) Lawrence of North Carolina, Ciji (Kyle) Wilhelm of Springfield, and Corey (Devyn) Lawrence of Dover. Terry's pride for his children knew no bounds; he consistently supported them in all their endeavors and celebrated their achievements with great joy.
In addition to being a loving father, Terry found immense happiness in being a grandfather. His grandchildren: Calvin and Benjamin Wilhelm; Slater and Sylvie Lawrence held a special place in his heart. Spending time with them brought him immeasurable joy and he cherished every moment shared with them.
Outside of work and family life, Terry pursued various hobbies that enriched his life. He had a passion for restoring classic cars, motorcycles, tractors, and anything with an engine—among these were his prized possessions: the iconic 1968 Chevelle SS 396 and his Ford 8 N Tractor. Terry's talent for woodworking was evident in the meticulous craftsmanship of his creations. Whether he was constructing a piece of furniture or swinging a golf club, Terry's hobbies brought him relaxation and fulfillment.
Terry will be deeply missed by his siblings: Debra (Tom) Brill, Teresea (Garry) Derr, Starkey (Carol) Lawrence—all of Plainfield, and Cindy (Mike) Bricker of Newcomerstown. He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews who admired his warm-hearted nature and unwavering support.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. A private family service will be held. A public celebration of Terry’s life will be held on Saturday, September 2nd starting at 3:00 pm in the Plainfield United Methodist Church at 101 Church St., Plainfield, Ohio 43836.
