Theodore A. "Ted" Lahmers

Theodore A. "Ted" Lahmers, 83, of Dover died on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Community Hospice House following a sudden illness.

Born on November 10, 1932 in Dover, he was the son of the late Carl and Alverda (Lengler) Lahmers. He was also preceded in death by his son, Timothy Lahmers on September 11, 1987; and two brothers, Eldon and Ralph Lahmers.

He graduated with the class of 1951 from Dover High School. Shortly after graduation, he joined the United States Army, where he served during the Korean Conflict.

For over 50 years he worked for the Ohio Operating Engineers. He later retired from Beaver Excavating but continued to work part time.

He loved Nascar, sports, and dirt track races. Ted also enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He especially loved spending time in his man cave, which was called the "Ratskeller." Above all, he loved being around his family. He was a member of the New Philadelphia VFW Post 1445 and a lifetime member of the Dover Zoar Gun Club.

On June 1, 1957 he married Sally Dummermuth at the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia. In addition to Sally, he will be sadly missed by his children; Pamela (Tom) Komaromy of Dover, Ted S. Lahmers of Dover, and Rhea (Kai) Rieger of Jackson Twp.; six grandchildren, Tiffany (Scott) Heiser, Jessica Komaromy, Jacob Komaromy, Keaton Lahmers, Manning Morris, and Sydni Morris; two step-grandchildren, Kevin and Kylie Rieger; three great grandchildren, Ava, Gwynith, and Elsa Heiser; his sister, Anna Swinderman of New Philadelphia; along with two sisters in law, Mary Lou Lahmers of Dover, and Mardell Lahmers of East Sparta.

Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 10-11:00am. A celebration of his life will take place at 11:00 with Pastor Bill Eckert officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military honors. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
