Thomas A. "Tom" Eddy, Jr., age 80, of Dover, passed away after a long illness, Wednesday, May 7, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 20, 1933, at Dover, he was a son of the late Thomas A. Sr. and Lena L. (Lallathin) Eddy. Tom graduated from Dover High School in 1951, and was worked as a bricklayer for various contractors, ultimately becoming a master bricklayer. In 1970, he was employed by Republic Engineered Steels at both Canton and Massillon, retiring in 1997. Tom was a hard-worker and a jack of all trades; he was kind-hearted and always willing to lend a helping hand. Foremost among his accomplishments was the home he built for his family.
Tom was a woodworker and produced furniture and many toys for family and friends, as well as a prized Victorian birdfeeder. He was also a talented, award-winning photographer. Tom had a keen interest in history, particularly World War II and the Civil War. He and his wife June visited many Civil War battle sites and re-enactments over the years.
Tom was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at Dover.
He was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, and "the best father-in-law a girl could ever have." Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years - the couple were wed on June 20, 1954, June Ann (Fannin) Eddy; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Nancy (Knapp) Eddy of Dover; a grandson and his wife, Dr. Matthew and Elizabeth (Meuser) Eddy of San Diego, California; a granddaughter and her husband, Kristin and Daniel Rensch of Pataskala; a very special dedicated niece and nephew, Carol and Stanley Medley of Dover; and three "grand-pups," Quigley, Ellee and Razzle Dazzle.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his half-brother, Boyd Lallathin.
There will be no calling hours. A private service will be held in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Ted Knapp of the New Cumberland United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Tom, please visit the Obituaries and Flowers link on the funeral home's website.
