Thomas J. “Tom” Connor, 81, of Dover, Ohio died Sunday, May 7, 2006 in the Park Village Health Care Center at Dover.
Tom was a former Dover High School Basketball Coach and taught math and science in the Dover Schools for many years. He also was the former basketball coach at Claymont and Dennison High School. Prior to teaching, Tom worked for Goodyear.
He was born February 19, 1925 in Dover.
He was a graduate of Dover High School and received his bachelor�(TM)s degree from Muskingum College where he was a basketball standout. He was Most Valuable Player at Muskingum his Junior and Senior year. He also was the MVP for the Midwest Tournament. He was selected into the Ohio High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 1983. He was also inducted into the Muskingum College Hall of Fame on October 10, 1981. Tom received his master�(TM)s degree from the University of Akron. He served as a paratrooper in the 17th Airborne Division of the US Army during World War II. He also served in the Merchant Marines.
Tom was a member of St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ in Dover and a life member of the Dover Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the 975 investment club.
In addition to his wife, Sarah Cooley Connor, Tom is survived by a daughter, Pamela Risolli of California and a stepdaughter, Brenda Battad of Ashburn, Virginia; four grandchildren, Danielle, Michelle, Nicole, and Charles and two sisters, Loveline Espenschied of Dover and Diane Angione of Canton.
Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday from 5-8pm. At his request, cremation will follow the visitation and a graveside service will be held at a later date.
