Thomas M. Hayward

Thomas M. "Tom" Hayward, 59, of Hennis Care Centre, Dover, died Tuesday, December 13, 2011, after courageously battling Multiple Sclerosis for some twenty-eight years.

Born January 6, 1952, in Dover, he was a son of the late Raymond E. and Mary Kathryn Meyer Hayward. Tom graduated from Dover High School and attended Kent State University. He was a former employee of Buehler's in Dover.

Tom was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, and had served as an acolyte there as a youth. Tom loved sports, especially baseball and football, following the Cleveland Indians, the Cincinnati Reds, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoyed rock music, especially that from the 1970's, a time period where he was often attending concerts as a young man.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer and Amy Hayward, both of New Philadelphia; two sisters, Nancy Reichman of Dover, and Susan (Ed) Smith of Canton; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, December 15, 6 8 p.m., and on Friday, December 16, 9:30 10:30 a.m. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Dr. William C. Haggis officiating. Entombment will follow in Dover Burial Park's Garden of Peace Mausoleum.
