Thomas R. “Tom” or “Bou” Marchand, age 78, of Dover, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021, in Dover’s Hennis Care Centre, following a brief illness.
Born May 26, 1942, in Dover, he was the son of the late Oswald and Awilda Ray Marchand. Tom graduated from Strasburg-Franklin High School in 1960, and went on to serve honorably with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married the former Bonnie Baker on June 28, 1964. The couple raised three children and shared just shy of 40 years of marriage prior to Bonnie’s passing on June 6, 2004. Tom was employed for many years by Fluorocarbon, Dover, until the business closed; he then went on to work for Superior Tank & Trailer, Beach City, from which he retired.
He was a member of the former Zion Lutheran Church in Winfield; the Dover and New Philadelphia Posts of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and the American Veterans of New Philadelphia. Tom was a sports fan who especially liked following the Cleveland Indians and NASCAR. He also enjoyed going bowling and eating at Burger King on the Boulevard in Dover.
Tom is survived by his children, Thomas Marchand II of West New York, New Jersey, and Beth (Dan) Varner and Tyler (Darla) Marchand, both of Dover; his grandchildren, Shelby (Howard) Dyer, Nathan Varner, Morgan and McKenna Marchand; and his niece, Bonnie (Dave) Jones.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Bonnie, Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Mowls.
Honoring Tom’s wishes, he will be cremated. Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Saturday, April 17, 2 - 4 p.m. A service will follow at 4 and military rites will be held immediately afterward.
