Thomas S. Tender

Thomas S. Tender, age 84, of Strasburg, Ohio and a former Canton resident passed away in Union Hospital, Dover, Ohio on May 26, 2004.

Born in Avella, Pennsylvania to the late Thomas and Louise (Skorn) Tender on October 28, 1919.

He moved to Canton, Ohio in 1946 and was an employee of the Timken Company for 30 years.

He attended the First Moravian Church in Dover and was a member of the New Philadelphia VFW and the Charles Hofer Post of the Strasburg American Legion. He served in the US Army from 1941 to 1945. He was in five major battles including the Battle of St. Lo.

Tom enjoyed watching ball games, working in the yard, square dancing and vacationing with his special friend, Loretta Grove for the past ten years. He was always willing to help others.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent Tender Burgettstown, Pa. And Frank Tender of Washington, Pa. And three sisters, Helen Wargo of Follensbee, W. Va., Sophia Lynn of Zanesville and Dorothy Pietrowski of Joffre, Pa.

Survivors are two children Thomas A. Tender Sr. and Luetta J. Tender both of Canton; Four grandchildren Thomas A. (Dawn) Tender Jr., Sonya Strychalski, Susan (Seth) Dean, and Angela Tender all of Canton; ten great grandchildren, and two sisters, Jennie Buchek of Burgettstown, Pa. And Bertha Yorkavich of Prosperity, Pa., and his companion, Loretta Grove and her family; his former wife, Leona J. Tender and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service celebrating Tom�(TM)s life will be held Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 2 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Rev. Allen Bergmann officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday (today) from 6-9 pm.
