Thomas W. Fox, 70, of Dover died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 at Park Village Health Care Center following a brief illness.
Tom was a practicing attorney in Tuscarawas County for 42 years. He retired in 2015 as a partner with Dennis Traver in the Traver & Fox Law firm in Dover that also previously included Attorney David Worth. He also served as a magistrate in the New Philadelphia Municipal Court under Judge Edward O'Farrell. Tom was a member of the Ohio State and Tuscarawas County Bar Associations. Prior to his law career, Tom taught 6th grade in Fairfax County, Virginia.
Born July 2, 1946 in Dover, he was the son of Ruth E. (Haswell) Fox of Dover and the late William A. Fox.
He graduated from Dover High School in 1964. He received his B.Ed. degree from Ohio University in 1968 and graduated from the George Washington University Law School in Washington D.C. in 1973. He had many interests including tennis, bicycling, and hiking. He was especially proud of his six hiking adventures to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. He was also a private pilot and member of the Amateur Pilots Association. He volunteered his time preparing taxes for the AARP, helped to establish the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, and also coached Dover Little League baseball.
In addition to his mother, Tom will be sadly missed by his family that includes his wife of 48 years, Carol (Dixon) Fox whom he married on August 10, 1968; two sons, Christian (wife, Michelle) Fox of Dublin, Ohio and Andrew (wife, Sheila) Fox of Worthington, Ohio; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Brandon, Hannah, and Harper; two brothers, Timothy (Karen) Fox of New Philadelphia and Terry (Michelle) Fox of Dover along with several nieces and nephews.
Pastor David St. Aubin will officiate a celebration of Tom's life on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 beginning at 11:00a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover. A reception will follow at the Dover First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 18 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. He will be cremated with private interment in the Dover Burial Park.
