Timothy J. "Tim" Hiller

Timothy J. “Tim” Hiller, age 66, of New Philadelphia, died at home on Thursday, December 26, 2024; Tim’s overall health had been declining recently.

Born January 8, 1958, in Dover, he was the son of the late Glenn and Evelyn (Welsch) Hiller. Tim graduated from Tuscarawas Valley High School in 1977, and was employed by Marlite in Dover, and later, by Beech Design & Manufacturing in New Philadelphia, from which he retired. Until recently, he was a driver for the Tuscarawas County Senior Center. Tim married the former Deana K. Green, who survives, on October 12, 1991.

As a young man, he proudly served as president of the New Philadelphia Jaycees, where he played a role in various community activities. Tim also raced competitively at Midvale Speedway showcasing his adventurous spirit.

For an impressive 40 years, Tim dedicated his time and energy as a volunteer for the Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby. His contributions included serving as race director for much of that time. Tim was honored for his service with induction into the Soap Box Derby Hall of Fame in 2024.

A proud father, Tim coached his daughter in softball during her childhood, teaching her valuable life lessons along the way. He took great pleasure in doting on his grandchildren and delighted in their achievements and time spent with them.

In addition to his dedication to family and community, Tim had hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He liked nature, and enjoyed going fishing and camping whenever the opportunities arose. Tim was passionate about sports, was an ardent fan of NASCAR, Ohio State football, as well as all of the Cleveland sports teams. He also loved to bowl and participated in several leagues over the years. 

Tim leaves a legacy of kindness, commitment and passion for life. His contributions to the community and the love he shared with his family will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Deana; his daughter Ashley (Derrick) Beamer of Magnolia; his step-daughter, Jessica (Mike) Wardell of Bowerston; his grandchildren, Cheyanne, Lara, Wyatt, Xaris and Takodah; his sisters and brother, Patricia Dillow, Nancy Housel and Larry (Betty) Hiller; and his nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Hiller; his sister-in-law, Virginia Hiller; and his brothers-in-law, Bob Dillow and Bill Housel.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, January 2, 4 - 7 p.m. Tim’s life will be celebrated at a service in the funeral home on Friday, January 3, at 11 a.m. Tim’s long-time friend, Pastor Ted Knapp, will officiate. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park.
