Tom West

Tom West, 81, of Dover, and a former resident of Canton, Navarre and Strasburg, passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020, in Dover’s New Dawn Healthcare Center.

Born February 13, 1939, in Wheeling, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Emerson and Bess West. Tom graduated from Wheeling’s McKinley Vocational High School and went on to attend the Ford Motor Institute in Detroit. He married the former Carole A. Goudy on Sept. 27, 1958, and the couple shared nearly 61 years of marriage prior to Carole’s passing on Aug. 2, 2017. Tom was employed in the automotive and tire industries for decades, which included Ziegler Tire Co. He retired from Ziegler in 2016 after 30 years of service, much of that time at the Dover location. He was a long-time member of McKinley Lodge 431 F. & A.M. and a recipient of the 33rd Degree.

Tom is survived by his son, Donald West, and Donald’s life partner, Charlene Samples, of Fishers, Indiana.

Honoring Tom’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no visitation or ceremony. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover.
