Vallie M. Carr, 83, of New Philadelphia died Friday, November 20, 2015 at Park Village Health Care Center.

Born September 12, 1932 in Dry Fork, West Virginia she was a daughter of the late Elijah and Ella White Davis. Vallie was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Carr in 1983; beautiful daughters, Wilma M. Stanley and Susan E. Carr; brother, John Davis and sisters, Nellie Teter and Rachel Summerfield.

In addition to being a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose world revolved around her family, Vallie, worked various jobs throughout her life, ranging from working in a balloon factory to a nursing home. Vallie loved children and in the early 2000's, volunteered as a foster grandparent.

Vallie will be greatly missed by her children, Dennis K. Carr of Dover and Donna J. Carr of Bath; grandchildren, Drew, Matthew and Nicholas Gutierrez, Wesley (Shannon) Shontz, and Joyce Ames; and four great grandchildren, Wesley Jr., Collin, and Xavier Shontz and Kody Ames. Vallie also has various other extended family members and friends including a brother, Edward Davis of Maryland, nieces, nephews, cousins and a special loving niece, Barbara Terrill of Maryland.

A true woman of faith, Vallie's greatest passion was for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Before being prohibited by her health and eyesight, she read her Bible through multiple times. Her legacy of faith has touched the lives of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends and will impact the lives of generations to come.

In addition to reading, Vallie enjoyed country and gospel music and loved to sing. She lived several years in Nashville with her daughter, Susan and grandson, Wes, where she often frequented the Grand Ole Opry and got to meet some of the legends of the day.

Vallie was a member of the First Assembly of God at New Philadelphia and enjoyed contributing to various charities, including 700 Club and Feed the Children.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 24 at 11:00 am in the Dover Burial Park with Rev. Donald L. Rice of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Dover officiating. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover is handling arrangements. A memorial fund has been established in Vallie's name through Feed the Children, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger. Donations in Vallie's memory may be made there by calling (800) 627-4556.
