Vaughn L. Ley Sr., age 88, of Dover, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017, in Community Hospice’s Truman House surrounded by his loving family.
Born December 1, 1928, in Mineral City, he was a son of the late Frederick and Cleda Moreland Ley. Vaughn attended school in Mineral City and married Mary Jane Rothacher in 1947. The couple reared two children and shared thirty-seven years of marriage prior to Mary Jane’s passing in 1984. He was employed by the U.S. Ceramic Tile Co., East Sparta, and privately, as a plasterer and tiler, until an injury no longer allowed him to work.
Vaughn was a member of the Dover Alliance Church. He enjoyed helping others and volunteered at the Greater Dover – New Philadelphia Food Pantry.
Survivors include his children, Vaughn L. (Sandra) Ley Jr. of Kimball, South Dakota, and Ruth N. (John) Ferrell of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Vaughn E. “Chip,” Wendy S. and Terry L. (Bill Tingler) Ley; his sister, Donna (Richard) Wilson; his brother, Clarence Ley; and his several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, and his wife, Mary Jane, Vaughn was preceded in death by his grandson, John E. Ley; and by his brothers, Fred, Glen, Les and Carl Ley.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Friday, November 17, 10 – 11 a.m., a memorial service, officiated by Pastor Richard G. Rose, will follow at 11. Vaughn’s cremated remains will be in Dover’s Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Dover Alliance Church.
