Velda M. Clark, 92, of the Canton Regency, and a long-time resident of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010.
Born Oct. 13, 1918, in Massillon, Velda was a daughter of the late James E. and Mary Summers Stansberger. She graduated from Massillon's Washington High School in 1937, and, on Sept. 22, 1940, married Delbert Clark. The couple resided in New Philadelphia, where Velda was a homemaker and Delbert was employed by Ladrach's Firestone Store and later served as a Tuscarawas County Commissioner. Sadly, Delbert died in 1961 at a relatively young age of forty-four. Soon afterward, Velda went to work for the county becoming chief bookkeeper for Auditor Donald Kinsey. She retired in the late 1980's.
Velda was a faithful member of First Christian Church in New Philadelphia, and the Dover-New Philadelphia Business and Professional Women's Association. She loved to travel, and equally loved working around her home, especially outside, gardening and growing beautiful flowers.
Survivors include a son, James (Sally) Clark of New Philadelphia; a daughter, Vivian (Tom) Kaiser of Canton; four grandchildren, Brian (Kelly) Clark, Stacie (Michael) Bollon, Debra (Keith) Newbauer and Kelly (Jim) Marks; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard (Phyllis) Stansberger; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, and her husband, Delbert, Velda was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Madaffer, and by a brother, Carl Stansberger.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 22, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia, with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia.
