Verbal L. Gordon

Verbal L. Gordon, 89 of Dover, began her spiritual life on Thursday, December 2, 1999, following a brief illness.

Born July 18, 1910 at Strasburg, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Elmer & Clara (Klar) Johnson.  She married Delbert R. Gordon on October 12, 1937 in the First Lutheran Parsonage at Strasburg.  After 58 years of being a devoted wife, she was widowed on April 29, 1996.

Verbal, a beautician for 44 years, was employed by the former Devaux Beauty Shop at New Philadelphia and the Anna Mae Beauty Shop of Dover.  She retired in 1975.  As a 55 year member of the St. John's United Church of Christ at Dover, she faithfully gave her time and talents to the Women's Guild and the Fellowship Circle.

She is survived by: a brother, Howard 'Bud' (Marjorie) Johnson of Bolivar, a son Larry (Holly) Gordon of Olmsted Falls; two grandchildren, Geoffrey (Christine) Gordon of Novi, MI and Gretchen (John) Allnutt of Jacksonville, NC; and a great granddaughter Caitlyn Doreen Gordon.

Six sisters and a brother preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, at 1:00pm in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover with Rev. Steven J.
