Verna M. Lewis

Verna M. Lewis, 84, of Park Village Health Care Center, Dover, and a former resident of both Strasburg and Parral, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007.

Born Sept. 1, 1922, in Beach City, Verna was a daughter of the late Roscoe Chatlin and Mary “Hazel” Swank Hartline. She graduated from Beach City
High School, and, on Mar. 9, 1940, married Robert E. Lewis. Verna was a loving wife, mother and grandmother �" a homemaker, who enjoyed gardening and watching the birds around her home.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Strasburg, where she belonged to several circles and participated in many church activities. Verna was active with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and its one time
Tuscarawas County chapter, having had children afflicted with the
disease. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Strasburg.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Lewis of Columbus, and Mary
(husband, Tom) Thurn of Sagamore Hills; a son, Howard (wife, Patricia) Lewis of Strasburg; five grandchildren, Rick (wife, Carol) Goodman, Jeff (wife, Amy) Goodman, and Scott (wife, Amanda) Goodman, Teresa (husband, Jody) Hall and Laura (husband, David) Pall; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Deibel Gribble of Bolivar, and Freida Taylor of Florida; two brothers, Clifford (wife, Jean) Hartline of Sugarcreek, and Edward “Paul” (wife, Irene) Hartline of Bolivar; a sister-in-law, Irene Hartline of Beach City; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on Jul. 18, 1999; two daughters, Anna Jean Goodman and Barbara Lewis; two sons, Dennis and Robert G. Lewis; and a brother, Russell Hartline.

Verna�(TM)s life will be celebrated in a service Friday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Steve Woyen officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Union Cemetery, Strasburg. Following the committal, there will be a meal in the First Lutheran Church. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on
