Vey D. Smith, 73, loving husband and father died Sunday, January 6, 2002 at Union Hospital following a sudden heart attack.
He retired as the owner and operator of Vey Smith Floor Covering in Strasburg after 25 years of service. He then became a real estate agent and retired in 2001 from Mallernee Realty.
Born April 19, 1928 in Dover he was a son of the late Clifford R. Smith and local Dover artist Helen Kerr Smith Douds.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Strasburg and the Dover VFW. He was a 1946 graduate of Dover High School and served in the Army with the Occupation Forces in Japan from 1946 to 1947. He enjoyed woodworking and left his mark in the area by building six new homes and remodeling five others.
Vey is survived by his wife Geraldine ''Gerry'' Arnold Smith with whom he celebrated 51 years of marriage on July 17, 2001.
He is also survived by a daughter: Yvonne Snyder and her fiancé Tim Goodwin of New Philadelphia.
Three grandchildren: Abby Lee, Mandy Lee and Teddy Snyder.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2002 at 10:30 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Pastor Fred Grosse officiating. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dover. Friends can call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 pm.
