Vickie D. Downing

Vickie D. Downing, 59, of Roswell, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, in Union Hospital, Dover, after becoming ill at home.

Born, Mar. 10, 1949, in Dover, she was a daughter of the late Dewey P. and Estelle Doolin Solley. Vickie graduated in 1967 from Midvale High School, and, on Oct. 4, 1969, married Richard J. Downing in the Roxford United Methodist Church in Dennison. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Vickie was employed by Bates Metal in Port Washington, Special Packaging in Strasburg, and the Timken Roller Bearing Co. in Canton.

She was a member of Roxford United Methodist Church and also attended the former St. Elizabeth Church in Roswell. Vickie served as a 4-H Advisor, and enjoyed playing Banko with her friends as well as going bowling. She was a movie buff who liked to travel, especially to Florida, going camping and attending to car shows.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; two daughters, Dayna Downing of Upland, CA, and Kimberly Downing (Ron) Mulheman of Uhrichsville; two brothers, Duane (Glenna) Solley of San Antonio, TX, and Dewey Solley, Jr. of New Philadelphia; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Vickie was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Solley.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Rev. Henry E. Mooney officiating. Burial will be later, after cremation, in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover. Immediately following the service on Thursday, there will be a meal in the Roxford United Methodist Church.
