Victor R. Marsh of Canton Ohio, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on
March 20, 2023, at the age of 82. Born on April 30, 1940, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, he was the
youngest child and only son of Victor R Marsh and Gladys Pearl Snyder Marsh. Victor graduated
from New Philadelphia High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from The
University of Colorado and a Juris Doctorate degree from The Ohio State University. He spent
the entirety of his career at Black McCuskey, Souers and Arbaugh where he practiced law for 56
years and was named the firm’s first managing partner.
Victor was an active and contributive member of the Canton community for the entirety of the
time that he lived there. He was instrumental in the renovation and preservation of downtown
Canton, serving as the Chairman of the Board of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce,
Chairman of Canton Tomorrow, Inc, and was the Vice Chairman of the Downtown Canton Land
Bank. He was the President of the Board of Trustees of the Canton Symphony Orchestra
Association and served on the Board of Directors for the North Canton Medical Foundation
where he additionally served as an Interim Chief Executive Officer. He additionally served on
the Board of Directors of The Stone Creek Brick Company, Marsh Industries, and the Masonite
Corporation for a number of years. He was one of the founding members of the Tuscarawas
County Community Foundation, which serves the greater Tuscarawas County community to this
day. Victor was particularly active at Trinity United Church of Christ, where he worshiped
weekly, served on multiple committees, and sang in the church choir for many years.
In addition to being devoted to his family, Vic had an incredible love for adventure,
automobiles, and the outdoors. He learned to fly while still a young teenager, soloed on his 16 th
birthday and owned a Cessna airplane for many years. Vic always had the most interesting
automobiles in his garage and raced a Crossle Formula Ford on tracks across the region later in
his life, taking his last lap when he was in is early 70’s. He was an avid fisherman and huntsman
and knew his way intimately around the Lake Erie islands and numerous trout streams across
the country. Along with his fellow hunters, he was often found walking the cold and snowy
Ohio woods on Saturday mornings chasing the ever elusive Grouse. Vic’s love for the outdoors
and Ohio countryside were best displayed at his farm in Stone Creek, where he spent countless
hours in the shadow of the woods and wildlife that abound there.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Eleanor M. Kirk, and Kathryn M. Medley.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Anderson Marsh, whom he met in high school and married on
August 24, 1963; three children, Victor R. (Kip) Marsh III and his wife Lorraine, Tiffany L. Marsh,
and Shannon P. Marsh; four grandchildren, Madelyn M. McClure, Luke W. W. Marsh, Victor R.
Marsh IV, Matthew A. Marsh; and his sister, Victoria M. Warner. He is additionally survived by
his sisters-in-law Margaret Fryer, Sandra Goodwill, Barbara Jaberg, and many nieces and
nephews.
Vic was a thoughtful, generous, compassionate person, always willing to help others. He will be
sorely missed.
A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church of Christ, 3909 Blackburn Rd NW in
