Virgil L. Cox, 88, of 218 E. 6th St., Dover, died Monday, May 1, 2000 in the Park Village Health Care Center.
He had retired from the Marlite Company in 1977 after 31 years of service.
Born March 18, 1912 at New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Roy & Etta Houk Cox.
Virgil had attended Faith United Methodist Church at Dover. He was a US Army veteran, having served during World War II. He had served as commissioner of and was active for many years with Dover Baseball Leagues, Inc. Virgil was a member of the Dover Elks Club, the American Legion, and had been an active bowler before he entered the service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine (Winkler) Cox, who passed away on March 18, 1993.

sister Betty Wertz of New Philadelphia
In addition to his parents and wife, Virgil was preceded in death by: a daughter-in-law, Jennie Cox, and sisters Dorothy Gordon and Catherine Schwartz.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 4 at 10:00am in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover with Rev. Carol Clements officiating. Interment will be in Dover Burial Park. Friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday from 7-9 with Dover Elks services being held at 8:45pm.
