Virginia I. (Edwards) Wilcoxon, 80, of the Park Village Retirement Center and formerly of McKinley Ave., Dover died Friday, February 6, 2009 in the center following a period of declining health.
Born March 1, 1928 in Dover, she was the daughter of the late John T. and Mae (Westbrook) Edwards Sr.
Virginia was a longtime bookkeeper for the former Edwards Sales and Service and Edwards Trucking of Strasburg where she worked with her family for over thirty four years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dover. She was also a member of the Tuscarawas Order of Eastern Star, Dover VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. She was a 1946 graduate of Dover High School. For many years, Virginia enjoyed bowling and golfing and in recent years, she loved playing cards and assembling jigsaw puzzles. She was fond of spending time with her family and truly enjoyed family gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Dean L. Wilcoxon who died on August 31, 1999. She was also preceded by her brothers and brothers and sisters in law, John "Red" and Dorothy Edwards, James "Pete" and Mary Edwards, and Dave "Bubby" Edwards and Victor Wilcoxon and Carl Harstine.
She is survived by four sisters in law, Carol Edwards of Strasburg, Doris Wilcoxon of New Philadelphia, Ruth Harstine of Dover and Wanda (husband, Dick) Kleine of Conway, South Carolina along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Virginia will also be missed by the staff at Park Village whom she considered her very special friends.
Funeral services celebrating Virginia's life will be held Monday, February 9, 2009 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Bruce McLaughlin officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Dean in the Dover Burial Park. Friends will be received on Sunday from 5-8pm.
