Virginia Jean Wasem, 89, of Dover passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at her son’s home in Dover following an extended illness.
Born on August 25, 1929 in Stone Creek, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Zora (Hawk) Pfeiffer. Her father Raymond died when she was 7 so helped her mother run the Stone Creek IGA the family owned. Virginia graduated from Stone Creek High School in1947and was the valedictorian of her class. She started her college career at Heidelberg University and received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary School Education from Kent State University in 1963. She later did her Master’s work also at Kent where she focused on Special Education. She taught at both Stone Creek Elementary and Dover Middle School.
Virginia married the late Robert Wasem Jr., on August 1, 1953. Robert preceded her in death on February 15, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Barbara Wasem, and her brother, James Pfeiffer.
Virginia was a member of the Dover Baptist Temple where she was active with the children’s choir, played the piano, attended the Lady’s Bible Study, and was the Vacation Bible School Director. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, but more than anything loved spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren.
She will will be sadly missed by her son; Robert (Stephanie) Wasem III of Dover; grandchildren; Rob (Jillian) Wasem of Dover; Rachael (Michael) Hagman parents of Declan her first great-grandchild of Des Moines, Iowa, and Fire Control Technician Petty Officer 3rd Class (SS) Jacob (Caitie) Wasem stationed in Honolulu Hawaii. She was expecting another great-grandchild in July.
A celebration of Virginia's life will take place at the Dover Baptist Temple on Friday, December 28, 218 at 11:00 am with Pastor Chris Rhodes officiating. Friends are invited to call at the Dover Baptist Temple on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 5-7pm. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover are handling the arrangements.
