Virginia L. Perkowski, 87, of Dover passed into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ at her home on Sunday, August 26, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Born February 25, 1931 in Turanza, Arkansas she was a daughter of the late John and Ethel Tanksley Vest. She was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Virginia spent her life caring for her home and family, which she dearly loved. Her summers were occupied with her large gardens and preserving their produce for her family. She loved flowers and her home was always surrounded with their beauty. In the long winter months, she loved to have a fire in the fireplace and read by the fire, most often the Bible, of which she was an avid student. In her later years, she loved to be read to from the Bible by her beloved husband.
Virginia, first and foremost, loved her Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. She served Him with great love and devotion, which was manifested in her love and devotion to her husband of 62 years, Thomas E. Perkowski, whom she married on June 28, 1956. Their family includes nine children, Joan (Gene) Ulrich, Sherry (Jim) Cercone, Richard (Jackie) Perkowski, Michael (Maureen) Perkowski, Millie (Herb) Lester, John (Lori) Perkowski, Tom (Cheri) Perkowski all of Dover, Vince (Sarah) Perkowski of Bolivar, Terri Black of Mississippi. Also surviving is her brother, Clovis Vest of Missouri. Virginia’s grandchildren were her great joy. They include, Christy (Mike) Wanosik of New Philadelphia, Tracey (Steve) Dennison of North Carolina, Christian Perkowski of Norton, Corey (Amanda) Perkowski, Jesse (Sumona) Lester of Columbus, Michael (Tricia) Perkowski, Dean (Kelsey) Perkowski, Herb (Chrissy) Lester, Luke (Sally) Lester, Shane (Hannah) Lester, Justin (Erin) Perkowski, Casey (Kourtney) Perkowski, Trey (Brittany) Perkowski, Hannah, Holly, Thomas Perkowski all of Dover; Gavin, Camberlee, Teagan Perkowski of Bolivar. Great grandchildren include, Ciera, Steve, Natalie, Clay, Piper, Bella, Kinley, Sawyer, Eve, Whitney, Lila, Leena, Kiran, Rory, Jace and Ariston.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 30th at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 pm.
