Virginia M. Johnson, 89, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in her home.
She was born September 9, 1921 near Dover, the daughter of the late Fred and Ida Pearl Yeager Rothacher.
For many years, Virginia worked in restaurant service, both for the former Bassetti's and Kreiter's restaurants and also assisted in the operation of two restaurants that she had owned with her husband, Harry E. Johnson, Sr., who preceded her in death in October of 1984.
Her hard working ways, determination and even a little stubbornness are some of what her family will most fondly remember. She enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles and when the weather was nice, sitting out on her front porch reading a good book.
Surviving family members include: eight children, Shirley (John) Sullivan of Wainwright, Harry (Linda) Johnson, Jr. of Conway, SC, Lewis (Susan) Johnson of Ocala, FL, Howard (Helen) Johnson of New Philadelphia, Terry (Jeannie) Johnson of Port Orange, FL, Bonnie (Bryant) Patten of Kalispell, Montana, Betty (Ben) Keffer of Alachua, FL, and Susan Waters of Lake City, FL; two sisters, Rose Rader of Sugarcreek and Laura Hidey of Naples, FL; three brothers, Raymond Rothacher of Dover, Rudy Rothacher of New Philadelphia, Larry Rothacher of Ft. Wayne, IN; 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by: a son, Richard Johnson, two sisters, Hazel Watkins and Sofia Rothacher; four bothers, Fred "Fritz", Earl, Sam, and Jerry Rothacher; granddaughters, Kathy Meese and Tammy Johnson; and two great grandchildren.
Hospice Chaplain Brian Flood will officiate a service that celebrates Virginia's life on Saturday, May 28, at 1:00 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Burial will follow in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Friends may call in the funeral home on Saturday one-hour prior to services.
