Virginia M. Swinderman, 88, a former resident of Midvale, Brightwood and New Philadelphia, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 13, 2003. She had been residing in the Brewster Parke Convalescent Center at Brewster for the past five years.
Born August 12, 1915 at Barnhill, she was the daughter of the late John and Verna Mae Rainsberg Hawkins.
She had formerly attended the First Baptist Church at New Philadelphia.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence J. Swinderman, who passed away February 14, 1987.
Survivors include: two sons; James (Mary) Swinderman of New Philadelphia and Allan (Sue) Swinderman of Brewster, eight grandchildren; Mark Swinderman, Darla Viola, Mike Swinderman, Barbara Scott, Sara Cookson, Christen Maurer, Jenny Spivey and Anne Brandon, seventeen great grandchildren, a brother; Kenneth “Gene” Hawkins of New Philadelphia, sister; Gerry Freetage of Dover and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Virginia was preceded in death by: a daughter-in-law; Millie Swinderman, three brothers; John Hawkins, Jr., Urban Hawkins and Laird Hawkins, and a great grandson Ryan James Viola.
A funeral service for Virginia will be held Thursday, October 16, at 11:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 246 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia officiated by her son, Pastor Allan Swinderman. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.
