Virginia R. Barnhart, 86, of Strasburg died Saturday, November 10, 2007 in Union Hospital.

Born December 19, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Rose (Catherine) Blakley. Her stepfather, the late Dave Gempler, raised her. She married her husband Otis Barnhart, on June 1, 1939 and he preceded her in death on March 14. 1987. Together they raised 8 children.

She is survived by her four sons; Terry Barnhart (companion, Peggy Creighton) of Columbia, Ronald (wife, Eva) Barnhart of Bolivar, Gary (wife, Sharon) Barnhart of Dover, Charles (wife, Grace) Barnhart of Canton; four daughters, Susan Barnhart Polen (companion, Joe Polen) of Dover, Debbie (husband, William) Klaus of Charleston, South Carolina, Jane (husband, Edward) Martin of Strasburg, Carol (husband, Harry) Schupbach of Dover, her sister; Wilma DeVore of Canal Fulton, her foster daughter; Lisa France of Dover and 29 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, two sons; Jessie and Keith Barnhart; a daughter; Sandy Barnhart, a grandson, Jerry Schupbach, a brother; Charles Blakely, a granddaughter; Valerie Richards, four great grandchildren and two stepbrothers precede Virginia in death.

Virginia was a member of the Dover Moose, VFW Auxiliary, Sandy Valley Eagles, Eberhart Coal Retirees, Carroll County Historical Society, Roswell Seniors, Ohio Valley Fly Wheels (OVFW) and a life member of TVPPA. She worked for the Times Reporter for many years. She enjoyed family gatherings; also bingo and and going to Wheeling Island and playing slot machines.

A celebration of Virginia�(TM)s life will take place at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 11:00 am with Pastor C.E. Hughes officiating. Burial will take place at the Melscheimer Cemetery in East Sparta, Ohio. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Those unable to attend or who may wish to express a fond memory of Virginia may sign the online register book by visiting the “obituaries” link on the funeral home website at www.tolandherzig.com. Following the service of committal, a luncheon will be held at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, which is located on the Boulevard in Dover.
