Virginia R. Black, 99, a lifelong resident of Strasburg died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 in the Park Village Health Care Center following a period of declining health.
Virginia was a retired Proof Reader for the former Daily Reporter at Dover. She also was previously a linotype operator for the former Strasburg Gazette & Spidell Printing Company.
Born June 14, 1908 in Strasburg, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Clara Studer.
She was the oldest living member of St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg where she was a 76year member of the choir. She was the Salutatorian of her high school class at Strasburg Franklin Schools. She loved music and previously enjoyed taking trips with her friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Russell L. Black who died August 29, 1979.
She is survived by her nieces and nephew Glenna (Nick) Haswell and Bob (Suzanne) Black both of Strasburg and Janet Black of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Pastor Gary Friend will officiate private services for her family on Friday at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Strasburg. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. There are no calling hours.
