W. Dale “Shorty” Dessecker, 75, of Dover, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004. Shorty had undergone back surgery at Aultman Hospital, and, during his recovery, suffered an apparent heart attack.
Born Aug. 15, 1928, in Schoenbrunn, he was a son of the late Karl and Ada Durbin Dessecker. Shorty was a 1947 graduate of Dover High School. He was a finish carpenter, and a true artist with wood. Shorty�(TM)s work can be seen in many homes and business throughout Dover and New Philadelphia. He worked many years for both the Gundy and Hammond Construction Companies.
Shorty was a faithful member of the Dover Baptist Temple, and he was also a faithful golfer.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly J. Everhart Dessecker, to whom he was wed on Jul. 3, 1949, in the Winfield E.U.B. Church; four daughters, Debra Dale (Frank) Campbell of Dover, Karla Kay Harper of Carrollton, TX, Laura Lee (David) Rosenberry of Stone Creek, and Alisa Ann (Aric) Warner of Senoia, GA; a son, Kelly Paul (Linda) Dessecker of Dover; fourteen grandchildren, Jamey (Shanna) Campbell, Jeremy Campbell, Heather (Paul) Kline, Seth and Adam Harper, Jessica, Jaclyn and Jodie Rosenberry, Tucker, Justin and Christie Jane Warner, Courtney, Lauren and Kooper Dessecker; five great-grandchildren; a sister, June Keller of Dover; four brothers, Gene (Joan) Dessecker and Melvin (Mary) Dessecker, both of Dover, Dennis (Jean) Dessecker of Fort Myers, FL, and Jerry (Rhea) Dessecker of Canton; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Shorty was preceded in death by infant twin daughters, Jennifer and Josephine; a granddaughter, Jillian Louise Campbell; and his brother-in-law, Ralph Keller.
A funeral service celebrating Shorty�(TM)s life will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m., in the Dover Baptist Temple, with Rev. Christopher Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. There will be a meal in Baptist Temple following the committal.
