W. Donald Packer

W. Donald "Don" Packer, 77, of Dover, Ohio passed away Friday evening, March 27, 2015 surrounded by his family.

Don retired in 2000 as an insurance agent with the Hanhart Agency in Dover where he worked for 38 years.

Born March 5, 1938 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, he was the son of the late Raymond O. and Mary (Milhorn) Packer.

He was a longtime member of the St. John's United Church of Christ having served as an elder and trustee. He was also a member of the Atwood Yacht Club, Life Member of the Dover Jaycees where he had previously served as president, 52 year life member of the Elks lodge, and former member of the Dover Kiwanis Club. He was a 1956 graduate of Dover High School. For many years, Don and his wife Bonnie enjoyed spending their weekends at Atwood Lake and enjoyed spending time in Naples, Florida. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends and working outdoors around his home.

He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife, Bonnie (Gerber) Packer with whom he would have celebrated 57 years of marriage this Sept. 14; three children, Kurt (Tammie) Packer of Hudson, Ohio, Julie (Jim) Boose of New Philadelphia and Kyle (Angel) Packer of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Andrew, Megan, and Alex Packer; Ethan, Evan and Joe Boose and Sam and Will Packer; two brothers and two sisters, G. Dale (Joy) Packer and Ann Boyd all of Lexington, Kentucky, M. Dean Packer of Canton and Jane (Tom) Maurer of North Canton, Ohio along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Don's life will be held Thursday, April 2, 2015 beginning at 11am in the St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover with Rev. Thomas Dunkle officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park with a reception to follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Wednesday from 4-8pm and Thursday from 10-11am in the church.
