Walter E. Ickes Jr., 73, of Strasburg died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at his home following a brief illness He was the owner and operator of Ohio Plumbing in Dover for 43 years.
Born Jan. 25, 1927, in Medina, O., he was a son of the late Walter and Verna Robb Ickes Sr.
He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Dover. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the 40 et 8 Club and the Drum and Bugle Corps. He was also a life member of the Dover American Legion.
Walter is survived by his wife, Jeanne Kappeler Ickes, with whom he would have celebrated 53 years of marriage on Oct. 12, 2000.
He is also survived by three sons, R. Alan Ickes and Timothy Ickes, both of Dover, and Brian Ickes of North Canton; two daughters, Susan and Clyde Penrod Jr. of Stow and Gretchen and Alan Seran of Akron; two brothers, James and Betty Ickes of Strasburg and Lynn and Muriel Ickes of Tacoma, Wash.; three grandchildren, Danielle, Stephanie and Ashley; and two stepgrandchildren, Jessica and Preston.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. in Dover Burial Park with Rev. Steve Daniels officiating. There are no calling hours.
