Walter Emerson Fisher, Jr.

March 30, 1939 — July 19, 2011

Walter Emerson Fisher Jr., 72, of Quitman, Arkansas died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in the White County Medical Center.

He was born March 30, 1939 and married Judith Booth Fisher on March 18, 1962. Recently they completed their tour together of all 50 United States including a wedding anniversary trip to Maui, Hawaii. They also traveled to all of the Canadian provinces including Newfoundland-Labrador, to all Mexican states, and to Europe, Belize, Nassau and Jamaica.

Mr. and Mrs. Fisher have lived the past 16 years in Arkansas in a home designed by Walter overlooking Greers Ferry Lake and the Ozarks. Walter was a trustee on Greers Ferry Lake Organization.

Walter was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Walter Emerson Fisher and Catherine Betz Fisher of Strasburg, Ohio, and a sister, Carol M. Fisher Jackson. He is survived by his wife Judith; a sister, Jeannine Fisher (Thomas) Jenei, of New Hampshire; and a brother, the Rev. Stephen (Nancy) Fisher, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Madison, Ohio.

After attending Strasburg schools, Culver Military Academy and Windsor Mountain School in Massachusetts, he served in the Air Force for six years. Walter attended Ohio State University and Buffalo State Teachers' College obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree. He taught Regents Earth Science at North Tonawanda High School for 30 years. His excellent and highly regarded instruction resulted in an expansion of his department with more students being enrolled, more teachers hired, and the addition of a new science wing. Mr. Fisher's classes consistently achieved high scores in the NY State Regents Courses Examinations. As a result of his inspiring teaching, many of his students pursued careers in the sciences.

Before retiring to Arkansas, Walter recorded and ran the sound equipment for the Little Theater in Niagara Falls and many concert organizations in NY and Canada. His many friends admired him for his optimistic, friendly and outgoing spirit and love of life.
