Walter E. Leggett

Walter E. Leggett, age 93, a life-long resident of New Philadelphia, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024, in Park Village Southside.

Born April 21, 1930, he was a son of the late John and Ada Archinal Leggett. Walter owned and operated Leggett & Harr Siding as well as a rental property business. He loved to work, particularly when it involved remodeling, taking care of his rentals and his own home. 

Walter married Edith Shinaberry Parrish on April 26, 1980; the couple shared 43 years together prior to Edith’s passing on October 5th this past year. Walter and Edith enjoyed family gatherings, travel and playing cards with friends - and Walter truly had the gift of gab. Late in life, Walter took up the game of cornhole, which he liked very much.

He is survived by his children, Keith (Lana) Leggett of Ashburn, Virginia, and Marta (Tom) Harr of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Brian (Amy) and Mark (Tiff) Harr, Melanie (Jim) Nixon and Jesse (Jason) Ricker; his eleven great-grandchildren; his two great-great-grandchildren - and another great-great-grandchild is expected in February; his brother, Don Leggett; and his nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, and his beloved wife, Edith, Walter was preceded in death by his sister and his four brothers.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 140 S. Bodmer Ave., Strasburg, on Saturday, February 3, 10 - 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11, officiated by Pastor Jim Manbeck of Roxford Church, Dennison. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover. After the committal, there will be a lunch in the St. Joseph Family Life Center across the street from St. Joseph Church in Dover.
