Walter T. "Walt" Newton, 80, of Dover, died Friday, March 27, 2009 in the Hennis Care Centre, Dover.
Born January 14, 1929 at Dover, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Thelma Espenschied Newton.
For years Walt worked as a television repairman for several area shops, including Montgomery Ward, eventually retiring from Monty Davis Television Repair.
An honorably discharged veteran, he was proud of his service to our country having been in the Army during the Korean War. Walt enjoyed golf, and especially bowling. Over the years he bowled in many of the area leagues.
He is survived by: three loving daughters, Brenda K. (Philip) Heldt of New Phila., Barbara J. (Tom) Shields of Georgia, and Norene D. (Patrick) Reardon of new Phila.; two brothers, Paul E (Trudy) Newton of Bolivar, and Lawrence E. (Kristie) Newton of Strasburg; a sister, Norma J. (Carl) Tylke of Zoar; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, a sister, Edna "Colleen" Contini, preceded Walt in death.
Rev. Lynda K. Masters will officiate a service that celebrates Walt's life on Tuesday, March 31, at 11:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. A meal for family and friends will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday, one-hour prior to services.
