Wanda M. Hughes

Wanda M. Hughes, 90, of Dover died on Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Affinity Medical Center in Massillon.

Born November 17, 1926 in Ashtabula, Ohio she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Aritabelle Gladding Maurer. Wanda was also preceded in death by her husband, William U. Hughes on April 1, 2009; brother, Randall Maurer and sister, Norma Doutt.

She was a 1944 graduate of Dover High School, and had worked at Baker Florist for 10 years, and finally retired from the Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau after 20 years of service. Wanda was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover and the Golden Oldies. She was a voracious reader who also enjoyed playing Bridge, tending to her flower garden and helping prepare lunches for Meals on Wheels. Wanda loved spending time with her “44” Club and hosting tailgate parties at her home before every home Dover football game.

Wanda will be sadly missed by her children, Zoe (Brad) Zimmerman, Mark (Debby) Hughes, Mary Beth (Mike) Edwards all of Dover, Wes (Jodi) Hughes of New Philadelphia; sisters, Judy (Dick) Tolloti of New Philadelphia; Marilyn (Bob) Fronk of Columbus; grandchildren, Andrew (Dina) Zimmerman, Michael (Natalie) Zimmerman, Rachel (Charles) Stuart, Bryan (Robyn) Hughes, Scott (Kasi) Hughes, Ben (Amanda) Hughes, Adam (Rachelle) Hughes, Emily Hughes, Lynn, Anne, Paul and Marcus Edwards; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Owen Hughes, Matthew Hughes, Olivia and Maxwell Stuart, Noah and Julian Zimmerman, Addison and Hannah Hughes and two more great grandchildren expected this fall.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 24 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Rev. Thomas Dunkle officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 – 11:00 am.
