Warner M. “Yogi” Ferguson, 62, of Dover, Ohio died Tuesday, November 7, 2006 in his home following an extended illness.
Yogi retired in 1995, as a police officer for the Dover Police Department where he worked for over 20 years. He had previously served the Helena/West Helena Police Department in Helena, Arkansas for ten years. His family moved to Dover in 1974.
Born April 24, 1944 in Fletcher, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Warner and Estelle Wagner Ferguson.
He was a member and Trustee of the Community Baptist Church in Dover. He was also a member of the Tuscarawas County F.O.P. Yogi was known for his outgoing and friendly nature and dedicated service to God, family, and the Dover community. His favorite pastime was cooking with his homemade BBQ sauce for his friends and family. Following his retirement from the police department, he enjoyed working at United Sales Inc. in Dover.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Snyder-Ferguson with whom he celebrated 39 years of marriage on June 2; He is also survived by his daughter, Catherine M. Ferguson of New Philadelphia; one son, Warner “Bud” Ferguson Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina; one brother, Charles (Willadean) Ferguson of Mountain View, Arkansas; his mother in law, Agnes Snyder of Helena, Arkansas; brother in law, Melvin (Patsy) Snyder of Helena; three sisters in law, Lola (George) Powell of Newport, Arkansas, Dorothy Sanders of Helena and Lillian Ferguson of Pine Bluff, Arkansas along with several nieces and nephews.
Yogi was preceded in death by a brother, Willie F. Ferguson and was very close to his father in law, O.M. Snyder who passed away in 1991.
A funeral service celebrating Yogi�(TM)s life will be held Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 1:30pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover with Dr. James Green and Pastor Andy McClung officiating. Private interment will be held in the Dover Burial Park. There are no public calling hours.
