Warren G. Parrish

January 22, 1921 — July 19, 1999

Warren G. Parrish, 78, of the Hennis Care Centre and formerly of Dover and Gnadenhutten, Ohio died Monday, July 19, 1999 in the center following an extended illness.

Warren retired as Senior Division Representative for the Ohio Division of the American Cancer Society and was in control of 48 counties.  He also formerly served on the National Staff of the American Cancer Society where he served as Program Director of the South Dakota Unit.  He worked for the American Cancer Society for 28 years.

Born January 22, 1921 in Uhrichsville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Walter H. and Faye Hamilton Parrish.

Warren served as a Gnaden Councilman for six years and was a well known baseball pitcher in Tuscarawas County.  He was a member of the Ohio Baseball Hall of Fame.  He was also a member of the Gnaden United Methodist Church, Past Commander of the American Legion Post #154, Life Member of the VFW, and was a Volunteer Director for Meals on Wheels.  Warren was a volunteer for the Tuscarawas County Unit of the American Cancer Society where he served as Chairman, Service Chairman, and state board member.  He attended Muskingum College and  was a US Army Veteran having served during World War II and Korean Conflict.    He was a Staff Sgt. And surgical technician.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Thompson Parrish who died Dec. 11, 1993.

He is survived by one son David (Lucy) Parrish of Gnadenhutten; one daughter, Susan (Larry) Melnick of Chicago, Ill.; Three stepchildren, John J. (Sharon) Kayea of Canton; Krista (Ernie) Farley of Alliance; and Kathey Hampton of Cincinnati.

Three Stepbrothers  Charles, Ronald, and Larry Parrish and a step sister, Faye Cerana, six grandchildren and six step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandchild, one brother, and one sister.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 23, 1999 at 10:30 AM in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Pastors Tommi Groom and Mark Davis officiating.  Interment will be in the Gnadenhutten Clay Union Cemetery.  Friends can call at the funeral home Thursday from 6-8 PM.
