Warren R. Crites of Hendersonville, North Carolina, died on Saturday, January 7, after an extended illness. He was 82 years old.
Warren is survived by Iona (Smith) Crites, his beloved wife of 58 years; their two children Brenda L. Reagan and husband Jeffrey of Virginia, and Alan W. Crites and wife Carol of California; and their three grandchildren Elizabeth, Linda, and Eric.
He was born on May 19, 1923 in Tuscarawas, Ohio, the son of Roger and Bertha Crites, and was one of six children including his deceased brother Claude, and his sisters Carol Beck, Dorothy Hewitt, Lila West, and Virginia Hiller. Warren graduated from Tuscarawas High School, then proudly served in the 95th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II, later becoming a founding member of the Tuscarawas VFW.
Following World War II, Warren earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, PA. He subsequently joined the General Electric Company where he enjoyed a distinguished 37-year career as an application engineer in their Industrial Sales Division. While at General Electric, Warren authored numerous technical papers and magazine articles, and was co-author of a widely used textbook on power systems design.
In retirement, Warren pursued his lifelong interests in woodworking, travel, photography, and hiking, as well as enjoying the company of his family and his special grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
A service that celebrates Warren�(TM)s life will be held Wednesday, January 11, at 10:30 a.m. in Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where V.F.W. rites will be conducted. Following the burial, friends and family will be received at a luncheon held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m.
