Wayne J. Smith

Wayne J. Smith, 81, of New Philadelphia went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at his home.

He retired from the Reeves Mill in Dover with over 20 years of service.

Born February 8, 1929 in Dover he was a son of the late Otto and Mary "Elizabeth" Williams Smith. Wayne was also preceded in death by his wife Rosemary Smith who died on April 5, 2001.

Wayne was a member of the First Church of the Brethren in New Philadelphia, and as a proud veteran of the US Army, he was also a member of the New Philadelphia VFW. Wayne was extremely capable of doing anything that needed done around the house, from putting on new additions to replacing the roof there wasn't any job he couldn't tackle. He also enjoyed fishing, especially at Fletcher's Pond in Michigan. But the most important thing for Wayne was his family; he loved spending as much time with them as possible.

Wayne will be sadly missed by his children, Gayle (David) Mack, Christine (Steve) Beitzel, Diane (Dick) West all of New Philadelphia and Jim (Lisa) Smith of Columbus; grandchildren, Nathan and Steve (Gwen) Beitzel, Heather (Mike) Harper, Kristen Beitzel, Chad (Shannon) West, Joe and Katie West and Erin Smith; great grandchildren, Jackson West and Elizabeth and Braydon Harper; sister, Pat (Angie) Cueto of Canton; and brother, Dave (Ronnie) Smith of Dennison.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 10:30 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Max Canfield officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park. Friends can call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 pm.
