Wilbur A. Youngen, 83, of Dover, Ohio died Thursday, January 27, 2005 in Union Hospital at Dover following a brief illness.
Wilbur was a retired bookkeeper for Baker Trucking Company in Dover. Following retirement, he worked for the Hills and Ames Stores in New Philadelphia.
Born November 10, 1921 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, he was the son of the late Frederick and Bertha Schilling Youngen.
He attended the Assembly of God Church in New Philadelphia and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He loved gardening and doing yard work and enjoyed restoring antique cars. He especially enjoyed going to car shows.
Wilbur is survived by his wife, Betty L. Milsted Youngen with whom he would have celebrated 57 years of marriage on April 25. He is also survived by two daughters, Dianne (Jim) Gardner of Sherrodsville and Nancy (Dave) Smith of Dover; one son, Dennis (Patty) Youngen of Hawkinsville, Georgia; four grandsons, Denny Youngen, Kyle and Sean Gardner, and David Reynolds; two brothers, LaVerne Youngen of New Philadelphia and Earl Youngen of Baltic along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Funk and Ila Youngen.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 31, 2005 at 1pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Pastor Ronald May officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military graveside services. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Sunday from 2-5 pm.
