William A. “Bill” Lieser Sr., 68, of New Philadelphia (Tabor Ridge), died unexpectedly Friday, May 6, 2011, in his home.
Born January 10, 1943, in Dover, he was a son of the late Carl and Maxine McCarthy Lieser. Bill graduated from Dover High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Navy. Following his service time, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic, working for the City of Dover and local quarry and mining operations. Bill also owned and operated Marlene�(TM)s Pizza in Dover, and was later employed delivering medical supplies to local nursing homes. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In his spare time, Bill liked to go fishing and to work in the yard around his home. He also owned a golf cart, which he loved to drive, most times with his dog Buddy as passenger. Bill never met a stranger, and enjoyed talking everyone.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Swauger Lieser, whom he married on March 26, 1966 in St. Joseph Church at Dover; a son and daughter, William A. “Bill” Lieser Jr., and Mary (Greg) Opliger, both of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Eric and Kellie Lieser, Hunter Duerig and Stephanie Woodhull; two great-grandchildren, Brent and Ally Woodhull; two sisters, Sandra Dallacheisa of Sugarcreek, and Marlene Campbell of Bolivar; many nieces and nephews; and last, but not least, Buddy.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother, John Lieser; three sisters, Patricia Schweitzer, Mary Schaar and Margaret Lieser.
A funeral service will be held Monday, May 9, at 11 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Jack McClelland of the Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dover, where the Dover Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct military rites. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
