William L.”Bill” Altier, age 75, of Dover, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 25, 2023, with his loving wife, Nancy, by his side; Bill had battled a number of serious health issues for some time.
Born February 18, 1948, in Dover, he was a son of the late Paul and Faye Medley Altier. Bill graduated from Dover High School in 1966 and went on to serve honorably with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He married the former Nancy S. Doriche, who survives, on June 3, 1967. Bill was employed for many years by the Shenango-Penn Mold Co. in Dover, and later by United Foundries in Canton.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 1973 both in Dover. In his younger days, Bill liked to hunt and fish.. He was well-known for his annual Christmas displays on Dover’s Jennifer Dr., which he put out with the help of Buck Uebel. Bill absolutely loved working jigsaw puzzles, and he was a long-time fan of the Cleveland Browns - win or lose, as well being a fan of Cleveland baseball. He loved dogs, and had two very special companions over the course of his life, Mickey and Biscuit.
In addition to Nancy, Bill is survived by his daughter, Billie-Jo Altier, of whom he was so very proud and loved dearly; his good friends, Darrell Martin, who was best man at his wedding, Jeff Moser and Kurt Hoffman; his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Paula, and his brother, Duane.
Family and friends are invited to call at St. Joseph Church on Saturday, July 1, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the New Philadelphia post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. After the committal, there will be a lunch in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
