William "Brother Bill" Hartley, Sr.

William “Brother Bill” Hartley, Sr., 86, of Dover got his lifelong wish at the Community Hospice Truman House on Easter Sunday morning April 16, 2017, to go see Jesus.

Born in Eldon, Ohio on June 9, 1930, he was the son of the late Alfred and Ethel (Stanley) Hartley. He was also preceded in death by two brothers; Cecil and Chester Hartley; and his sister, Edith Silvernale.

He attended The Oleny Friends Boarding School in Barnesville, Ohio. He was C.O. Medic during the Korean Conflict, where he helped treat the sick and injured. Throughout the years, Brother Bill was a painter, worked at Doudna Orchards, and was the Tent Engineer at Anslow Revivals, Flame of Pentecost.

He loved spending his time outdoors fishing, hunting, and planting trees. He was an active member of Flame of the Pentecost in Dover where he looked forward to the each and every sermon. He enjoyed helping with the Sick and the Shut Ins, and spent a lot of time doing nursing home ministry.

On September 22, 1956 he married Josephine Baumgardner. Together, they had two children; Angie (Bill) Kocher and William Hartley Jr., both of Follansbee, West Virginia. He is also survived by a grandson; Zachary William Hartley of Ohio; sister, Dorothy Gaskalla of Carey, Ohio; sister in law, Nancy Pool Hartley of Lakeview, Ohio; nieces, nephews and cousins; along with his special friends, Joe and Bonnie Swonger, Bob Smart, Mark Troyer, and Uri Sharp; along with many church friends.

A celebration of Brother Bill’s life will be held at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 1pm with Rev. Kevin Anslow and Rev. Paul Robb officiating. Interment will take place at East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home on Friday from 11am until the service starts at 1pm.
