William C. "Bill" VonKaenel, 78, of Dover died Tuesday morning, May 7, 2013 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a brief illness.
Bill retired as the owner/operator of Beller VonKaenel and Ohio Carrier Trucking Companies at Dover.
Born Dec. 26, 1934 in Strasburg, Ohio, he was the son of the late Paul R. "Pappy" and Margaret (Bowen) VonKaenel. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean A. (Selzer) VonKaenel who died Sept. 7, 1992 and his brothers Bob and Fred "Fritz" VonKaenel and sister, Patricia LaMasters and an infant sister.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ at Dover and the American Trucking Association. A graduate of the 1952 class at Strasburg High School, he had many interests including fishing, caring for his yard and enjoyed playing euchre and jass. He also loved spending time with his family including his grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife, Brenda (Bailey) VonKaenel with whom he celebrated 19 years of marriage on Jan. 9; four children, Stephen (Barbara) VonKaenel of New Philadelphia, Valerie (K. Dan) Wallick of Dover, Lisa (Jeffrey R.) Walters of Dover and Michael D. (Brenda) VonKaenel of Lakewood, Colorado; three stepchildren, Michael A. (Nanette) Akers of Canal Fulton, Karen Gosnell of Tallmadge, and Tonya L. Stewart of Canal Fulton; 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren along with a sister, Jean Gochnauer of Dalton and two brothers, Gerald "Goose" VonKaenel of Marion and Ron VonKaenel of Dover.
A funeral service celebrating Bill's life will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013 beginning at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover with a reception to follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00pm-7:30pm.
