William D. “Bill” Fortney, 76, of Dover died Friday, October 10, 2003 at Aultman Hospital.
He retired from the United States Army, as a Staff Sergeant, in 1968 after 22 years of service.
Born April 16, 1927 in Canton he was a son of the late Harrold and Margaret Bomberger Fortney.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Dover VFW. He was also a veteran of WW II, Korea and Vietnam.
Bill is survived by his wife Dolores “Tootie” Fortney with whom he celebrated 51 years of marriage on May 5, 2003.
He is also survived by six sons: William (Phyllis) Fortney of Navarre

Barbara Johns of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania
Doris Ross of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania
One brother: Richard Fortney of Anchorage, Alaska
20 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Ann Fortney; two brothers, Don and Gene Fortney; sister, Florence Keys.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover with Deacon Ron Fondriest officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Dover where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends can call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 pm.
