William E. Burkey, 58, of Bolivar died Saturday, March 13, 2010 following injuries he sustained in an automobile accident.
A dedicated and career military man, William was with the India Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines in Vietnam where he received two Purple Hearts and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Following his service in the Marine Corp. he retired from the United States Army Reserves. After his retirement from the military he drove truck for Pro-Line Carriers and Ohio Carriers.
Born December 20, 1951 in Dennison he was a son of the late Raymond and Beulah Bender Burkey.
William loved riding his motorcycle and was a member of the USMC Motorcycle Club. He was also very artistic, and enjoyed painting with his airbrush.
William will be sadly missed by his children, Tracy Burkey of Mineral City, Jordi Burkey of Dennison and Ashley Burkey of North Canton; grandchildren, Devin and Courtney Croft, Raina Steinmetz and Hallie Burkey; close friends, Herschel Duncan and Lynn Schrader.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at Rittman. Friends can call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 pm.
