William E. Lieser

May 21, 1925 — April 17, 2008

William E. "Bill" Lieser, 82, of Dover, died Thursday, Apr. 17, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.

Born, May 21, 1925, in Dover, he was the son of the late Earl S. and Augusta Minger Lieser. Bill graduated from Dover High School and went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army during the Second World War. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Following his service time, he attended Bowling Green State University and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business.

Bill was employed as a teller at the former Reeves Bank and Trust Company. He met his future wife there, the former Ruth Ann Hoverland, and the couple was married on Apr. 5, 1952. Bill worked hard and rose through the ranks at the bank, ultimately becoming president. He retired from Reeves' successor, Huntington Bank, in 1983, following thirty-four years of service.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover, member and Past Exalted Ruler of Dover Elks Lodge 975, member of the Exchange Club, 40 et 8 Voiture 117, and served on the board of the Reeves Foundation.

Bill enjoyed the game of golf and playing cards with friends, being a member of several bridge clubs. He studied painting and liked to read. It must be said, most importantly, that Bill was a devoted family man.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann; a daughter, Pam Lieser of Napoleon; two sons, Pat (Jeanie) Lieser of Minerva, and Mark Lieser of Dover; four grandchildren, Michael and Jonathan Lieser of Minerva, Sara (Todd) Sonnenberg of Napoleon, and Brian (Keri) Morlock of Loveland; brother-in-law, Richard Hoverland of Dover; and niece, Kim Hastings of Tuscarawas.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey W. Lieser, in 1981.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Friday (today), Apr. 18, 6-8 p.m. An Elk's service will be held at 7:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Apr. 19, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev.
